The Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC CIP) Prep group is a collaborative of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Hubs* in the Greater Toronto Area with a shared goal of facilitating IPAC Leads in LTCHs obtain their certification. Identified as a priority by the Ministry of Health (MOH), Long Term Care Homes now have access to experts from experienced IPAC teams (known as Hubs) with the specific goal of supporting education and building capacity in local IPAC Leads.
Supporting IPAC leads in Long Term Care meet the proficiency requirements outlined for the profession helps them achieve a level of confidence that can comes with obtaining certification. Through the MOH’s IPAC hub initiative, this community of practice empowered IPAC Leads to take the first steps towards establishing the pursuit of continuing education required by our profession. This educational intervention provided by the IPAC Hubs is the first step in the pursuit of excellence in infection prevention in these settings. Establishing a community that inspire each other towards professional development amongst this demographic of IPAC professionals sets the stage for the IPAC hubs next goals: elevating the profession to providing best practices to the residents in Long Term Care.
The lectures were shared and recorded to respect the participants roles as adult learners and were screened weekly. These lectures were followed by Brigitte Pascual, who hosted a practice session after each lecture reviewing the content using the APIC learning modules. These Question and Answer with Brigitte periods were known as “Q & A with B”. To date, 24 IPAC leads participating have achieved their certification as a result of participation.
